These instructions assume that you are using a mouse. Most tasks can
also be done without a mouse. See Keyboard Shortcuts for the Desktop for more
information.
To Select a Palette

Click the Style Manager Color control.
Select a palette from the Palettes list.
Click OK.
Desktop colors come from predefined color palettes. The
Color dialog box lists the palettes that
came with your system plus any palettes you have added.

To Modify a Palette

This procedure changes the color settings of the currently selected
palette. If you have a default palette (one of the palettes provided
with the Desktop) selected, you may want to copy it.

This ensures that you can return to the original
settings of the default palette if necessary.
Click the Style Manager Color control.
Select a palette in the Color dialog box.
Double-click a color button to open the Modify Color dialog box. &newline;Or, click a color button, then click Modify.
Adjust the settings in the Modify Color dialog box.
Click OK in the Modify Color dialog box.
Repeat steps 2-4 to modify another color button.
Click OK in the Color dialog box.

To Grab a Color from the Workspace

Click Grab Color.
The grab pointer appears.
Move the pointer to an area of color on the workspace that you want
to grab.
Click OK to make that color the New color.

Click the Style Manager Color control.
Choose Add in the Color dialog box.
Type the new palette in the New Palette field.
Click OK in the Add Palette dialog box.
Click Modify and modify the palette (See .)
Click OK in the Color dialog box.
Adding a palette makes a copy of the currently selected palette and gives the
copy a unique name. You then modify
the copy, keeping the original palette intact.

Click the Style Manager Color control.
Select the palette from the Palettes list.
Choose Delete.
Click OK in the Delete Palette dialog box to confirm deletion.
To Restore a Deleted Palette

Open a File Manager view of the showing HomeDirectory/.dt/palettes folder.
For system palettes, remove the file ~PaletteName.dp.
For user added palettes, rename the deleted palette
from ~PaletteName.dp to PaletteName.dp.
Restart Style Manager (close, then reopen).
When you delete a palette, Style Manager places a copy of the palette
in the .dt/palettes subfolder in your home folder. The file name
of this copy begins with ~.

To Change the Number of Colors Used by the Desktop

Click the Style Manager Color control.
Choose Number of Colors in the Color dialog box.
Select a color use option to set the number of colors used in the
desktop. (See for information on how the desktop
uses colors.)
Click OK in the Number of Colors dialog box.
Click OK in the Color dialog box.
You must log out and log back in before this change takes effect.

To Select a Font Size

Select a font size.
Click OK.
Window labels and text show the new font size as applications are started.

A backdrop is a pattern that covers the workspace (the screen area
underneath your windows).

Adjust the Double-Click gauge to set the maximum amount of time between
single clicks to be considered a double-click.
Click OK.
The new double-click speed takes effect the next time you log in.

To prevent the screen blanker from activating, select Off.
If the screen blanker is set On, you can adjust the time of no
activity after which it will start by sliding the Start Blanker gauge.

Click the Style Manager Screen control.
Select Transparent Lock if you do not want a background displayed
when you lock your screen.
If you selected Use Backgrounds For Lock check box, select the
background or backgrounds you want to use from the list.
A preview of the latest selected background displays. If you select more
than one background, they will cycle in the order in which they
appear in the list.
If you selected more that one background, set the number of minutes
each background should run before the next one starts by sliding the
Time For Background gauge.
A setting of 0 means that only the last selected background (displaying
in the preview area) will be used.
Click OK.

Click the Style Manager Window control.
Select Point In Window To Make Active to make a window active when the mouse
pointer enters it, or Click In Window To Make Active to make a window active when
the mouse pointer enters the window and you click mouse button 1.
Note that if you select Point In Window To Make Active, you cannot use Alt+Tab
to change the active window.
Click OK.
Click OK when asked to Restart the Workspace Manager.

Click the Style Manager Window control.
Select Raise Window When Made Active to bring a partially concealed
window to the top when it becomes active.
Select Allow Primary Windows On Top so main window remains on top when secondary
windows are displayed.
Select Show Contents During Move to move the window during a window move instead of
just moving the outline at first.
Click OK.
Click OK when asked to Restart the Workspace Manager.

When you log out, the desktop saves your current session and restores it
the next time you log in. To indicate you want to return to a different
session at login:
Click the Style Manager Startup control.
Select Return to Home Session to return to a saved session.

When you log out, the desktop saves your current session and restores
it the next time you log in. To save a different session you can choose
to return to at login (known as your home session):
Click the Style Manager Startup control.
Click Set Home Session.
Click OK in the confirmation dialog box that appears.
Click OK in the Startup dialog box.
